Full Description

We are working with a client, based in North London, who are looking to appoint a Public Health Specialist for Children and Young People. The purpose of the role is to provide public health support and advice into the commissioning of services for children and young people working closely with 0-19s commissioner, while working across the public health team and the wider council and external partners to help improve services and outcomes for children and young people.

some key responsibilities:

1.Liaise with the lead for Public Mental Health and other partners to develop an approach to improving mental wellbeing and resilience for children and young people

2.Prepare reports and other contributions for the Health & Wellbeing Board (HWB) and JSNA

3.Work effectively in partnership to provide support and guidance across the Council and externally on relevant projects such as school readiness, asthma prevention, Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) Parenting Programmes, Sandwell Charter Mark

4.Provide operational leadership on specific areas, including:

o Childhood obesity
o Covid-19
o Best Start in Life
o Team Talk
o Breastfeeding
o Child oral health
o Drug and Alcohol
o Childhood immunisations to improve uptake
o Prevention of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)


5.To develop policies and strategies which have a positive impact on improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities

6.To manage various meetings, groups and boards as required

For this assignment it is essential that you are educated to Degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience and have evidence of continued professional development (CPD). It is also desirable if you are working towards or having completed Practitioner registration.

This role is set for an initial 3 month contract with a pay rate of £250 - £300/day umbrella
