Our client, based in East London, is seeking an experienced PSH – Compliance Enforcement Officer to join their Private Sector Housing (PSH) team within the Selective Licensing Scheme. This is a high-paced, enforcement-led role where you will be expected to perform effectively and meet set targets. The position plays a crucial part in ensuring private rented properties across the borough meet housing standards and licence conditions through proactive and robust enforcement activity.
The successful candidate will carry out inspections of private rented homes to identify non-compliance, issue civil penalties and enforcement notices, and prepare cases for prosecution where necessary. You will manage risks associated with housing disrepair and criminal activity in the private rented sector, while providing clear communication and professional support to landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders. Strong knowledge of housing legislation, confidence in serving notices, and experience handling challenging situations are essential for this role. Experience using Civica systems will significantly strengthen your application.
This is a full-time contract for an initial three-month period, with a strong likelihood of extension. Candidates must hold the HHSRS qualification, possess excellent report-writing and IT skills, and have at least four years’ experience in housing enforcement within a Local Authority. A full UK driving licence is required. The role offers up to £60 per hour (umbrella) for candidates with a proven track record in proactive housing enforcement and achieving performance targets within selective licensing schemes.
