Full Description

Our client is a very busy council in Staffordshire who are seeking a Principal Planning Officer to work on major and complex planning applications. The role will involve carrying out a full range of development management functions and assisting the Team Leader.

You will assist the Team Leader in managing the statutory Development Management functions, prepare reports and recommendations, prepare appeal statements, and give evidence to public hearings/ inquiries. You will determine planning applications, including major schemes from application through negotiation to implementation and delivery.

Applicants must be qualified Town Planners with demonstrable experience of dealing with large scale proposals. You will come into contact with a wide range of stakeholders and will be required to keep Elected Members, MPs and customers appropriately informed on planning matters and deliver a high level of customer care. You will regularly be required to attend and present items at Plans Panel, make recommendations and give planning advice to Elected Members.

To apply for this role you will need a significant amount of town planning work experience ideally gained within a local authority context. A detailed knowledge of the statutory and policy framework within which planning decisions are made is absolutely essential as are formal qualifications; minimum to degree level and ideally with professional accreditation.

This will initially be offered as a 5 month contract but could be extended beyond this and our client offers 37hrs per week. The hourly rate offers is up to £46/hr Umbrella (inside IR35) depending on your level of experience.

Our client offers a hybrid working arrangement which is predominantly home working but you may need to be in the office once a week.
