Our client is a Local Authority in East London and they are looking for a Principal Planning Officer to join their Development Management Team. You will manage a varied caseload of Planning Applications including major strategic applications and you will lead on the negotiations for these applications to ensure community benefits are secured and the Council's regeneration objectives are met. You will prepare and present Committee reports on major proposals of strategic importance and you'll prepare statements, proofs of evidence for public enquiries and act as professional witness. You will ensure the service complies with relevant legislation, regulations and policies.
You will also support Planning Managers / Deputies in the delivery of town planning services, including providing a customer focused service which maximises service outcomes in relation to cost.
These roles are great opportunities for Planners looking to take a step into a role with management responsibility as you will assist in the management and direction of the group including the co-ordination of the work of the group, and the setting of priorities.
To apply for these roles you will need to be a degree qualified Town Planner with a strong development management background. You will need to be comfortable managing your own caseload and able to work well under pressure when required. You will need to be well organised and confident dealing with external third parties and able to produce well written communications. Your strong knowledge of UK planning legislation will enable you to provide pre-application advice and you will be confident when advising developers on planning proposals; good negotiation skills are essential.
The team are currently working from home but site visits might be required were appropriate.
The rate offered for this role is £320/day and this position is inside IR35. It will initially be offered as a 3 month contract but could be extended.
