Full Description

Our client is a busy and dynamic Local Authority based in Merseyside and they require 2 degree qualified Town Planners to carry out roles within their Development Management Team. They require both a Planning Technician and a Planning Officer for contract roles which will initially run until the end of January 2022 but could be extended.

The Planning Officers work will focus on dealing with a large caseload of minor and medium planning applications and you will be providing expert technical advice at every stage. On a daily basis you will be completing reports, carrying out site visits where required and representing the Council at committee. The main purpose of this role is to find balance between the conflicting demands for development within housing, commercial properties, recreation, the transport network and the environment to allow appropriate development to take place for the benefits of residents and businesses of the borough.

The Planning Technician will be involved with a range of administrative functions concerned with the processing and handling of planning applications including processing and determining applications including advertisements, householder, listed building, change of use and prior approvals. You may also be involved with receiving and logging applications, scanning and uploading onto the relevant database, validating applications to check for content and preparing documents to be used in planning committee meetings; you will also assist in drafting planning notice letters.

Recent work experience in a UK local authority managing a caseload of this type is essential. Your knowledge of current planning legislation and guidelines will need to be fully up to date and you must have good communication skills. This local authority has a high volume of work at the moment so requires a planning officer who can hit the ground running.

To apply you will need a relevant town planning degree, work experience within development management and good organisational skills. The rate offered will depend on your experience but will be between £19 - £25/hr Umbrella.
