Full Description

Our client is a Local Authority based in the South West of England, and they are seeking an experienced Planning Strategy Manager to join them for an 18 month contract position.

Reporting to the Head of Planning you will lead the Planning Strategy Team in the preparation and submission of the Draft Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate and to support its passage through public examination. You will also have line management of the Community Infrastructure Team in the delivery of S106 and CIL duties.

As the Planning Strategy Manager you will be responsible for the development, periodic review and implementation of CIL /S106 including the delivery of infrastructure projects to support the Local Plan. You will also be responsible for delivering the statutory duty to cooperate with neighbouring planning authorities and Government departments by means of responding to policies emanating from other planning bodies and joint working on strategic planning matters.

Applicants for this post must be qualified Town Planners with experience of working in a similar management position within a Local Authority setting. Your strong technical knowledge of UK planning legislation will need to be complimented with good management skills and the confidence and ability to direct a team. Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships.
