We have local authority client based in Exeter looking to hire a Housing Officer on a Fixed Term Contract basis, initially for 5 months with a view to extending.
The role exists to provide a customer focused housing options and advice service, preventing and relieving homelessness wherever possible as a priority in line with Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 legislation.
On a daily basis you will carry out housing needs assessments for applicants who have been identified as those facing or threatened with homelessness. A key function of your role will be acting as liaison with landlords, working to effectively negotiate and mediate in an effort to prevent homelessness. When required you will work with service users to help obtain alternative accommodation.
You will help create, review and update effective Personalised Housing Plans in an effort to drive the reduction in use of emergency and temporary accommodation through effective prevention work.
To apply you will need previous experience of housing options and a working knowledge of relevant housing legislation. Good negotiation skills are absolutely essential and you will need to be a confident communicator. You will need to be capable of manging multiple cases and prioritising your workload efficiently. Any formal housing related qualifications would be an advantage.
