Our client, based in the West Midlands, is seeking an experienced and competent Food Safety Officer to join their team on a contract basis. The role will involve carrying out food hygiene inspections across all risk categories (including unrated businesses), enforcement revisits, paid-for FHRS rescores, investigating food complaints, and following up on sporadic infectious disease notifications. Where competent, the postholder will also undertake food standards inspections at catering and retail premises.
To be considered, candidates must be food hygiene competent (food standards competency desirable) and able to demonstrate recent Local Authority food safety experience within the last 12 months, with evidence of competency. Applicants must hold at least one relevant qualification, such as a Higher Certificate in Food Control or Official Control, Environmental Health qualifications (Degree, Diploma, or Masters), APC in Food Hygiene and Standards Control, or registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner.
This is a full-time role (Monday–Friday), although part-time working will be considered for the right candidate. Hybrid working is available (3 days on site / 2 days from home for full-time staff, negotiable for part-time). Candidates must have access to a vehicle and be available to start ASAP. The contract will run until the end of March 2026.
