Our client is a Local Authority based in Essex, and they are seeking an experienced Development Team Manager to join them for a contract role within their Development Management planning team. You will support the Assistant Director of Planning and to manage a hard-working team of Development Management Planners, Planning Enforcement Officers, Land Charges and Planning Technical Support staff.
You will be responsible for producing service plans, budgets and monitoring, including within agreed limits cost centre management responsibilities; to recruit staff and ensure that staff development plans are agreed, and appraisals against those plans are undertaken; to identify own and staff development and training needs; to input into corporate projects as required; and if required deputise for the Assistant Director of Development Services. You will also be required to undertake, manage and represent the Council at external meetings (including within professional forums), briefings, presentations, tribunals, public inquiries, engagement work and consultation with stakeholders, including the community.
To be considered for this post recent management experience within Planning is essential for this post, ideally gained from a local authority. You must be educated to degree level in related subject or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge. Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development.
This role is inside IR35 and the rate offered is £70/hr Umbrella. It will initially be a 3-6 month contract.
Our client offers hybrid working, with 2 days a week being based in the office and the rest home working.
