Our client is a Local Authority based in the West Midlands, and they are seeking an experienced Area Planning Manager to join them for a contract role to lead a team of Development Management Officers.
Reporting to the Planning and Development Services Manager you will provide direct line management support to Principal Planning Officers, and indirectly to Planning Officers and Assistant Planning Officers, including the assessment of individual and team performance against agreed shared and personal targets. Specifically you will be responsible and accountable for 4 FTE members of staff directly and up to 20 indirectly, acting in a supervisory/managerial capacity, monitoring performance, supporting development and undertaking annual appraisals.
You will be responsible and accountable for the performance and use of resources within a clearly defined part of the service area which supports the delivery of key outcomes for local people, achieved by building and maintaining an effective team. You will also be expected to lead in the assessment and determination of large and complex planning applications as required and to attend and be the lead professional officer present at planning committees as required.
To be considered for this post recent management experience within Planning is essential for this post, ideally gained from a UK Local Authority role. You must be educated to degree level in related subject or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge. Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development.
This role is inside IR35 and the rate offered is £500/day Umbrella. It will initially be a 6 month contract.
Our client offers hybrid working, with on average 1 day a week being based in the office and the rest home working.
