Full Description

Our client is looking to appoint an Urban Design Officer to take a key role in the team leading on work streams and providing support to the team manager as required. Working in a busy London Borough Council you will manage urban design input on a range of projects from major strategic area development through to town centre design and smaller scale local level projects that require your specialist input. The role will be design focused and you will be involved with the Borough's historic heritage work around landscape design and listed building applications.

On a daily basis you will be required to help organise work for the team, liaise with external third parties including consultancies and project manage your own schemes. As such the role requires an established Urban Design / Conservation Officer competent enough to manage a busy workload and provide managerial support when required. You will need to be well organised as you will be managing multiple schemes simultaneously and you will need to have good financial acumen to ensure value for money where external organisations are involved. Ideally you will have a solid knowledge of local authority funding processes and how to engage with the private sector.

At this level an appropriate degree level qualification is expected and ideally you will have professional accreditation. You will need a strong working knowledge of relevant planning legislation and a good understanding of the pressures faced by local authorities in managing sensitive planning applications. Good communication skills are essential.

The role is based in South East London, will last at least 6 months and pay £28-£34/hr. A full JD is available on request.
