The death of a wedding guest has become a major environmental health job after it was suggested that food poisoning was the cause, it has been suggested.
On what was meant to be the happiest day of Jennifer Harris and Stephen Wick's lives, Rene Kwartz, 82, fell ill at their wedding reception at the Hilton Suite hotel in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.
While several others who also became sick managed to recover, Ms Kwartz died last week.
Mother-of-the-bride Norma Harris said that she was left "devastated" by what happened.
She confirmed that Ms Kwartz had salmonella, leading to the speculation that food poisoning from the wedding's outside caterers led to her death.
Officers with jobs in environmental health from Bury Council and inspectors from the Health Protection Agency's Greater Manchester Health Protection Unit and NHS Bury are investigating the incident.
Last month, another wedding was ruined after guests fell ill.
According to This is Staffordshire, 15 attendees to a reception held at JCB Lakeside Club in Rocester were treated for vomiting and diarrhoea as a virus quickly spread through the congregation.
