Those with trading standards jobs at one local authority are urging people to be on the look out for scam letters.
As part of the Scamnesty campaign, trading standards officers at Wiltshire Council are inviting people to hand in pieces of mail sent from fraudsters at collection bins throughout the area.
"The letters collected will be vital in helping us gather intelligence on the latest scams and in stopping the worst offenders from continuing to bring misery to thousands of vulnerable people each year," Christine Wells of the county's trading standards team points out.
Such an initiative forms part of a nationwide campaign run by the Office of Fair Trading in a bid to stop people from falling victim to deceptive prize draws, bogus lotteries and other scams aimed at conning innocent consumers out of money.
Earlier this month, the Trading Standards Institute urged people to be on the lookout for fraudsters who attempt to rob items under the pretence they are inspecting homes for frozen piping.
