Trading standards officials warn Highland residents against hoax
A trading standards job to combat bogus door-to-door callers is currently underway in Scotland.

Staff at Highland Council have advised residents to be wary of scams that may result in them losing money, Highland News reports.

Bogus handymen often visit people's homes offering repair or maintenance services that have been overpriced and carried out to a poor standard.

Trading standards staff have advised residents to take a seven-day cooling off period to take time to consider the proposed contract.

Gordon Robb, trading standards manager, urged the public to ask for satisfactory identification and a clear quotation of the work to be carried out by house callers.

He said: "It is vital to remain vigilant and to be wary of callers at your home and to seek advice if in doubt."

This news comes after holiday companies Personal Travel Group and Geo Demographic Market Research were prosecuted for performing misleading sales techniques, BBC News reports.
