Trading standards officials warn Bexley residents about charity scam
People with jobs in trading standards have issued community members with a warning about bogus charity clothes collections in Bexley.

Bexley Council has received a number of complaints from local people who have received misleading information about donations to good causes.

Scammers in the south London borough have distributed the bogus leaflets to residents, offering to give their old clothes to charity.

Trading standards officers have predicted that clothes accumulated as part of fake collections could benefit illegally-operating businesses.

Council officials advised people to be wary of collection bags that do not feature official logos from reputable charities.

Trading standards officials from the London borough run a What Tradesman? scheme, which helps residents find reliable workers.

Customers can browse through a feedback section on the website to give them an accurate representation of the quality of the service.

Businesses are encouraged to register to the scheme in order to build up a customer feedback rating and promote reputable trade in the borough.
