Officers with jobs in trading standards are set to meet up local residents in York to help reduce the problem of illegal business in the area.
Next month, the City of York Council will hold its Residents' Federation Open Day to teach locals about their rights as a resident of the Yorkshire city.
The York Press reported that on October 21st 2010 between 12:00 and 15:00 BST, residents' groups and associations will be at St Clement's Hall to discuss the role people play in their community.
As well as celebrating the work of the Residents' Federation, people in trading standards jobs will also be at the event.
Attendees will be able to speak with the council officers to learn ways to avoid buying illegal products.
"[They] will be offering advice on how to deal with unwanted doorstop callers," the newspaper added.
Last month, Sefton Council announced it was using the government's Buy With Confidence scheme, which provides a list of reliable suppliers to local residents so they know which services can be trusted, the Maghull & Aintree Star reported.
