Huddersfield residents with jobs in trading standards could be required to help crack down on the number of cold callers and doorstop salesman.
Kirklees Council has announced it will spend more money to improve its campaign to deter illegal trading in Lindley, according to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
In March 2010, the local authority put up signs to make people more aware of the problem of doorstop salesmen and has now pledged an extra £500 to make the message clearer for hawkers to keep away from homeowners.
Lindley Liberal Democrat councillor Christine Stanfield said: "A further 50 signs will help make people more aware that they should not be trying to sell on the doorsteps of Lindley."
She added that residents should inform the salesmen that they will report the incident to West Yorkshire Trading Standards officers.
Other Yorkshire authorities have been trying to reduce the number of illegal businessmen recently and the City of York council announced it will hold an open day in October for residents' groups and associations to help locals know more about their consumer rights, the York Press reported.
