People with jobs in trading standards in Birmingham have been involved with cracking down on used car dealers who change the mileage readings in second-hand cars.
Earlier this week, Birmingham Crown Court found a used car seller who falsely advertised damaged vehicles guilty of breaching trading standards regulations.
Peter Robinson, 47, was sentenced for two offences at the Ford Kar Centre in Tyseley and was ordered to pay a fine of £3,015.
His conviction followed an investigation by officers with jobs in trading standards at Birmingham City Council who found that he engaged in misleading commercial practice, gave false information about the vehicles he sold and changed the mileage on the cars.
Mr Robinson advertised one Ford Focus as having 61,000 miles on its clock when it had actually travelled more than 142,000 miles.
Last month, Birmingham Crown Court also found four men guilty of changing the clocks on vehicles to provide false mileage readings.
