Trading standards combat illegal trade with online tool
Officials with jobs in trading standards have created an online shopping directory in a bid to tackle the sale of illegal products.

Using the new tool, internet shoppers will be able to browse a list of their favourite designer brands and search for genuine stockists.

The Brand-i website was created with the aim of reducing the estimated £82 million spent on counterfeit goods online each year.

Jenny Dalton, founder of the shopping directory, addressed the need for reducing the risks associated with shopping for well-known products using the internet.

She added: "The idea for Brand-i was that there had to be a better way of reassuring online shoppers that the stores they were using were authentic and selling the genuine products."

Earlier this year, Brand-i announced the launch of an intellectual property tracker system that increases the security of confidential information sent by email.

The technology allows users to discover if the communication has been received by the third party.
