People with jobs in town planning in south Devon have finished work on a £93,000 improvement project.
The initiative, which will see Newton Abbot's busiest town centre street transformed, was officially opened on Tuesday (August 24th 2010).
Teignbridge Council's economic development councillor David Corney-Walker said the project has "helped Newton Abbot improve its already strong reputation as a bustling market town with the power to buck the gloomy national trend".
Courtenay Street now has benches, better covered market stalls, paved streets, a greater number of plants and a pedestrianised area.
At the opening, residents were able to enjoy music from Jerri the Trumpeter and witness balloon modelling by Lez the Pirate Magician.
The street's popular market, which is expected to be improved with the new layout, was also open to customers.
Another redevelopment project was confirmed earlier this week, after Mendip District Council approved the proposals to restore Frome's town centre in Somerset, BBC News reported.
