People with
town planning jobs have been called in to regenerate the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
The development has been given the green light by officials, with £45 million due to be injected into the project.
Six offices, two self-catering flats and two new restaurants are set to be constructed as part of the plan to restore the area on the edge of the Royal Mile.
Hotel chain Motel One, which already has several locations in Germany, will also fill a former Edinburgh City Council building on the Market Street site.
The £25 million hotel will have 208 rooms and be developed by the Chris Stewart property development group.
Owner of the company Chris Stewart said: "Bringing Motel One in to anchor the whole development kick-starts the regeneration of a key part of the Old Town which will take place over the next three years."
The award-winning property developer has generated over 700 hotel beds in the past four years, making it Scotland's most successful hotel company.
It is also currently working towards redeveloping five unfinished apartments and a plot of three town houses in Elie, which the company purchased out of administration.
