Town planning officials launch regeneration of Nottinghamshire town
Officials with jobs in town planning started work on a new project to transform Kirkby-in-Ashfield on Friday (June 3rd).

Demolition workers were called in to destroy the existing shopping precinct in order to make room for new developments, the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad reports.

Supermarket chain Morrisons was given the green light to rejuvenate the location after empty shops caused the town's economy to struggle.

As part of the redevelopment of the Nottinghamshire site, council officials have also announced plans to make improvements on Lawmoor Road and Ellis Street.

Simon Wright, owner of Lighthouse Estate Agents, said: "[The building has] got a lot of structural issues and it is going to cost a lot of money.

"Personally, I would have built a small shopping centre with big name brands."

Ashfield District Council plans to regenerate Kirkby town centre with the aim of creating new employment and training opportunities for local people.
