A development of flats and shops in Chelmsford has been given the go-ahead, which will create town planning jobs in the region.
According to the Chelmsford Weekly News, the Mesopotamia Island project will feature 165 one and two-bedroom apartments alongside 16,000 square metres of retail space on the current car park space.
Developers Aquila will be overseeing the construction and planning and has said that it will employ local people and open discussions with retailers in order to ensure that the project is a success.
Tony Chambers, chairman of the group, said: "Chelmsford is a thriving town with good national and local retailers. We know there is demand for more retail space and this scheme will allow a significant part of this demand to be satisfied."
However, officials in town planning jobs with Axminster Town Council recently voiced their opposition to a proposed housing development hoped to bring 400 new homes to the region.
