There could be an increase in the number of town planning jobs available in Norwich if its eco-development plans are accepted.
Plans to develop environmentally-friendly town of Rackheath on the outskirts of Norwich were given a boost earlier this week after new housing minister Grant Shapps expressed his views on the development, the Norwich Evening News reported.
In a letter written to Broadland District Council, he said: "[I want to make sure] that there is real support for major new developments and that the community has helped to shape them."
If the community gets behind the proposals - which include building greener homes, renewable on-site energy production facilities, environmentally-friendly public transport systems and a network of green space - this could come as good news to town planning officers.
The Labour government originally awarded £9.55 million for the eco-town.
With the backing of Mr Shapps, the council hopes that the coalition government will show the same support and provide enough money to allow it to complete the project.
