Staff in town planning jobs with North Somerset Council are to take a look at a proposal to build 900 new homes in the area.
Developer Persimmon Homes want to construct the development on Weston Airfield, with the plans also including the creation of a new school and supermarket, as well as a business district.
According to a statement from the company, council officials will find the plans match up with the local authority's own policies, reports the Weston Mercury.
"It has long been an objective of North Somerset Council planning policy to create and attract additional jobs to the town," it was said.
Persimmon urged the council to approve the scheme so work preparing the site can begin "as soon as possible".
Earlier this week, plans for a new eco-town in Gloucestershire were submitted to Stroud District Council by developer Hunter Page Planning, reported BBC News.
