People in town planning jobs in the north-west are to work with disabled consultants in order to improve access to facilities in the area.
Experts from Copeland Borough Council are to work with Gary Jackson and Noel Moore from the South Copeland Disability Group to ensure that any new buildings or redevelopment projects are disability-friendly, the North West Evening Mail reports.
The two men have received training on auditing so that they can attend meetings and liaise with town planners to discuss potential access problems and come up with solutions.
Mr Jackson said he hopes the new consultancy roles will have a positive impact on Copeland for ordinary members of the public.
He added that he hopes he and Mr Moore will be involved in the layout of a new Indian restaurant in the town as part of their first project.
Earlier this month, Centre of Alternative Technology suggested that people in town planning jobs could also have an important environmental role in the coming years, designing buildings and infrastructure to help meet emissions targets.
