Proposals for a major superstore to be built in Leeds could create a large number of jobs, according to a report by town planners.
Councillors will meet later this week to discuss retail developer Morbaine's plans to build a 90,000 square foot supermarket in Armley, the Guardian reported.
As well as regenerating the inner city area, it is thought the development will create up to 400 extra jobs.
A report released by the officials in town planning jobs said: "The additional retail offer that a superstore will bring could offer the potential to support this town centre."
Backing the development plans is Armley councillor Alison Lowe, who said that the superstore could help redevelop the area.
The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph reported that Morbaine also put forward planning applications to develop a discount food store in Wellingborough last month.
If proposals for the Northamptonshire site are accepted at a council meeting in August, it is anticipated that 30 extra jobs will be created.
