People with
jobs in town planning could be awarded more powers regarding the number of takeaways in Birmingham.
In a bid to halt the significant increase in the number of approved new eateries, council officials have rejected plans to open an establishment in Erdington, the Birmingham Mail reports.
This comes after residents voiced concerns about litter and volume levels from takeaways that stay open until the early hours of the morning.
However, planning policy designed to encourage the development of new businesses in the area is currently relaxed concerning the restaurants.
Peter Douglas Osborn, chairman of planning for Birmingham City Council, acknowledged the need for changes to town planning regulations.
He said: "We want more control, but we do not want to prevent run down shops and shopping centres being regenerated."
This news comes after town planning officials in Scotland rejected proposals to transform land used as a park in Crieff into a new Sainsbury's supermarket, BBC News reports.
