Swansea officials with
jobs in trading standards have confiscated bottles of potentially dangerous counterfeit vodka from a retailer.
Council staff have launched an investigation into the incident, which is the latest case in an increasing number of incidents involving fake alcohol in recent years.
Residents have been issued with an urgent warning from Swansea Council to avoid purchasing cheap vodka due to the suspected addition of chemical methanol, which can lead to blindness.
Community members who have experienced abdominal pain, drowsiness or blurred vision after drinking the spirit have been advised to seek medical attention.
David Picken, trading standards divisional officer, said: "Although the alcohol we've seized did not have high levels of methanol in it, there is always the risk it will have."
The local authority's trading standards division aims to improve the quality of sales and services to consumers by ensuring businesses take part in fair retailing at all times.
