A series of town planning jobs are needed in the UK to help make the country's homes more environmentally-friendly, an industry expert has said.
Dr Hugh Ellis, chief planner of the Town and Country Planning Association, said that he welcomed a recent report from the Environmental Audit Committee stating that adapting to climate change needs to become a national priority.
According to Dr Ellis, such a policy change will have "profound implications" for those in town planning jobs.
"Innovative spatial planning will be critical in introducing the measures required to help make our urban areas less vulnerable to a changing climate," he stated.
He said these measures may range from more green open space to sustainable urban drainage systems.
Earlier this week, the Royal Town Planning Institute stated that more needs to be done by the government to help those working in the sector to fight the effects of climate change.
