Officials with
jobs in trading standards in East Sussex have urged residents to be cautious when purchasing products from car boot sales.
According to the Eastbourne Herald, local people have been advised to say no when offered counterfeit items, despite the low price.
The warning comes after the county's trading standards officials joined forces with car boot sale organisers to prevent a similar problem last year.
As part of the initiative, the planners signed the Real Deal national markets' charter to show support campaign for fair trading.
Increasing numbers of criminals have used the stalls to retail poor-quality fake goods, which have been stolen for the purpose of selling.
East Sussex County Council's dedicated division of trading standards officials aims to enforce government legislation and offer advice to businesses to ensure products are sold in the best interests of consumers.
The local authority also urges community members to voice their concerns if they feel a company is taking part in unfair or illegal selling.
