An environmental health officer in Redhill has helped to prosecute a Chinese restaurant in the area after it was found to be in breach of several food hygiene laws
A routine visit by the official in an environmental health job in March 2009 alerted the council to a number of food hygiene offences at the New Tong Fung Restaurant on Brighton Road, Redhill.
The restaurant was given two months to comply with hygiene improvement notices issued by the officer, reports Redhill and Reigate Life.
However by May 2009, the restaurant had failed to install sufficient changes to their food safety management system or cleaning procedures.
Despite failing to work with the council to meet targets set by the environmental health officer on their visits to the premises, the restaurant has now met the required standards and will undergo continuous inspection in the future.
Redhill Magistrates' Court fined New Tong Fung Chinese Restaurant £2,180 for four separate food hygiene offences.
The news follows a report by Wales Online that UK restaurants will not be required to display their food hygiene scores to customers.
