Officials with jobs in environmental health may soon be called into action by residents of Dursley in Gloucestershire.
People living near a Lidl supermarket in the Kingshill area of the town have complained that delivery lorries arriving late in the evening are making their lives a misery, local newspaper the Gazette reports.
The supermarket was recently granted permission to receive deliveries until 22:00, despite residents' concerns about the noise and pollution levels.
"Even with our doors closed and double glazing we are disturbed by the noise of this rumble," said Anne-Marie Rutter, who lives nearby.
"It is most intrusive, people are very aware of this racket."
A spokesperson for Stroud District Council told the newspaper that residents should contact the department responsible for environmental health jobs if they believe the supermarket is creating a noise problem.
Earlier this month, noise consultants at North Lincolnshire Council received an accolade at the John Connell Local Authority Awards 2010 for their efforts in tackling sound pollution.
