Residents and businesses 'awarded more town planning powers'
People with jobs in town planning could see themselves working alongside business owners and residents on new projects.

The creation of Neighbourhood Forums, which will be launched as a result of recent amendments to the localism bill, will allow local companies and residents to work together in planning future projects for their communities.

Minister of state for decentralisation Greg Clark announced the plans, which aim to ensure neighbourhoods are regenerated with the consideration of people working in the area.

He also addressed the importance of locally run firms in increasing trade and creating jobs during an appearance at the Empowering Business Neighbourhoods event.

Mr Clark said: "Businesses have access to skills, resources and expertise that can give a real boost to getting the right kind of growth underway in many areas."

The localism bill was created to give residents and local authorities increased influence over regeneration and improvements made to their communities.

Introduced in December 2010, the bill outlines government plans to promote a local democracy as well as community spirit.
