Officers with jobs in rail engineering could be needed to match the growth of Virgin Trains.
Yesterday (July 29th), the company announced that in 2009-2010, it has seen "spectacular growth".
It confirmed that while the rail industry has only seen an increase of passenger numbers by 0.8 per cent, Virgin Trains has attracted 16 per cent more users to its services.
If the company continues to grow into the second half of 2010 and beyond, it is likely that there could be an increase in the number of rail engineering jobs available to help it expand to meet customers' travel demands.
Virgin Trains' chief executive Tony Collins said: "It's no accident that, despite the recession, Virgin Trains is seeing such spectacular growth - it's because we have invested heavily in improving our services."
The firm might also increase its rail staff population in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, after Network Rail confirmed that over 500,000 people are expected to attend the tournament in the capital.
