People with
jobs in environmental health have been called in to investigate suspicious fumes at the Ilford branch of Primark.
According to the Ilford Recorder, the expertise of council officials has been requested to determine the source of the public health risk.
Paramedics were called to the scene after 11 customers fell ill due to the fumes, which ran through the High Road store.
Public safety officers revealed that contractors had carried out painting work on the ceiling of the newly-opened retailer.
John Eva, senior environmental health officer from Redbridge Council, said: "We do have this in shops and warehouses from time to time; if it's white spirit it's to do with the concentrate, some people are very sensitive to it."
The local authority's dedicated environmental health employees aim to ensure the safety of the public is maintained through carrying out investigations into dangerous environments.
