A new solar farm is in the pipeline on the Isle of Wight, it has been reported.
According to local news source County Press Online, the sixth solar farm to be built on the island is currently at its consultation stage and is the latest development idea to be put forward at Wilmingham Plantation, on the west of the island.
The solar farm, should it go ahead, will be built by Low Carbon Solar, a Cirencester-based firm which employs people in jobs in environment and sustainability.
The source noted that the new solar site would generate enough power for 1,000 homes, around five megawatts.
Speaking to the newspaper, company acquisitions director at Low Carbon Solar Kate Covill said: "We were much encouraged by the response to our solar energy exhibition at the Garlic Festival and want to involve as many Island people and companies as possible in setting this up if we gain planning permission."
The last solar farm to be constructed on the island was the work of green energy firm Kronos, based in Germany.
