People with
jobs in trading standards in Oldbury have assisted in an investigation resulting in the prosecution of a car dealer.
The owner of MJC Motors misleadingly sold a vehicle for over £10,000 to an unwitting customer on auction website eBay.
Marios Emilou was fined a total of £3,141 due to misselling an unroadworthy Renault Laguna to a motorist, despite claiming the car came with tax and MOT. In addition, MJC Motors was ordered to pay £6,015.
Council inspectors were called in to investigate following a complaint from the customer after the vehicle broke down moments after the purchase.
A spokesperson from Sandwell Council said: "The buyer was not told at any point in the sale that the car was unroadworthy and hadn't noticed the receipt.
"The car broke down after the gearbox failed on the buyer's drive home."
Sandwell Council's dedicated trading standards team have urged residents to come forward if they are misleadingly sold an item on unfair terms.
