Experts in regeneration jobs have been given the green light by the government to begin a new £21 million road project in one region of the UK.
Somerset County Council announced today (February 4th 2011) that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance has approved its bid to start the construction of the Northern Inner Distributor Road (NIDR) in Taunton, an initiative which will involve those in jobs in regeneration.
According to the local authority, this development - which has been designed to ease congestion in the town centre and open up development areas nearby - could lead to the creation of up to 3,600 new jobs as well as the construction of 900 houses.
Work on the initiative is scheduled to get underway in April of next year and councillor David Hall labelled it a "massive boost for Taunton and the wider Somerset economy".
This could be a sign that the central government listened to calls from the local authority for more funds to save its services last year.
