People with jobs in town planning could be affected by the government's Localism Bill.
Last week, Communities and Local Government unveiled the Localism Bill, which is aimed at giving back power to councils and allowing them to "run their lives and neighbourhoods in their own way".
Rosie Anderson, policy and research officer of Community Masters, has said the new legislation will enable towns to take ownership of its buildings.
It gives councils the right to bid on their local buildings such as libraries, pubs and shops, which could then see them develop these structures more easily, without bureaucratic constraint.
Ms Anderson also commented that it obligates authorities to keep a list of properties in the area "that are recognised locally as being of importance to the community".
By doing so, this could affect future town planning jobs, as it may alter the council's proposals to develop some of the constructions.
