Plans for an east Midlands regeneration project have been given the green light, it has been revealed.
Leicester City Council has approved proposals to replace the Granby Street underpass with a pedestrian and cycle-friendly ground-level, with a new concourse and entrance to be built for train station.
In addition the Leicester Business scheme will see the creation of a 30,000 sq m office quarter and a multi-level car park.
It is thought that more than 2,000 jobs could be created by the project, those seeking planning vacancies may wish to make note of.
Diana Gilhespy, executive director of regeneration at the East Midlands Development Agency, claims: "Leicester Business Gateway is a landmark project that will develop the second phase of a high-quality business district in a key area of the city."
Ross Willmott, leader of the city council, adds the project will help create "a major new thriving area of Leicester".
Earlier this week it was revealed that the first stage of a £50 million regeneration project in Surrey - led by A2Dominion and Spelthorne Borough Council - is to get underway.
