People looking for jobs in town planning could be encouraged to look for positions in Bishop Auckland after it was revealed that the town is set to be regenerated.
Two new grant schemes have been released as part of Durham County Council's regeneration plans for the area of Fore Bondgate, according to the Northern Echo.
Funding of up to £20,000 will be given to small businesses to help them get established in the area and four retailers have already committed to the scheme.
It is thought that the development plans are intended to support fledgling businesses and encourage visitors to the town.
Cabinet member for regeneration and economic development Neil Foster told the newspaper: "We want to make [Fore Bondgate] even better, while retaining its unique atmosphere."
A lot of changes have been occurring in the area lately, including the opening of Bishop Auckland's new fire station earlier this month, the BBC reported.
It replaced the original building, which opened in 1955.
