There has been an increase in the number of incidences of businesses in Lincolnshire using inaccurate measures to short-change customers, people with jobs in trading standards have said.
Figures have revealed that between 2005 and 2009, dodgy measures were being used by 62 shops, 52 petrol stations and 106 pubs in the area.
There were 196 inaccurate measures found in North East Lincolnshire, while the city of Hull experienced 244 incidences.
Speaking with the Lincolnshire Echo, landlady at Lincoln's Joner's Arms Jo Wright advised landlords to always keep an eye on the measures "so customers are confident in what they're buying".
Lincolnshire County Council's Trading Standards Service is responsible for checking the weights and measures used in local businesses, with the department saying: "This ensures that the kilo of meat in the butchers, pint of beer in the pub and litre of petrol at the garage are all correctly measured."
