People in environment and sustainability jobs have been told that plans to create a Gypsy camp site in south Derbyshire have been scrapped.
This is because the Derbyshire County Council have decided that there are likely to be more disadvantages of the travellers' site in Hartshorne than benefits, the Burton Mail reported.
Pat Murray, representative of the Midway and Hartshorne division of the council, told the newspaper: "The degree of harm to the area's character and appearance and to highway safety is sufficient to outweigh the sustainability of the location and the need … [for] traveller caravan sites."
This comes after Andrew Price appealed against the local authority's decision to axe the plans which included building a permanent eight-caravan site and four amenity blocks.
The conclusion could lead to a surge in demand for officers with environment and sustainability jobs to control the problem of travellers in the local area.
Last month, the Lancashire Telegraph reported that Peter Britcliffe, leader of Hyndburn Council, called the government to give more power to local authorities over how to deal with the problems of traveller sites.
