Politicians should take more action to educate residents about the importance of environment and sustainability, an expert has claimed.
Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), has urged politicians to protect consumers against potential costs brought about by the Green Deal.
His comments come after the Department of Energy and Climate Change outlined plans to ensure residents are not faced with excess expenses as a result of the changes.
Mr Leech expressed concern about the possible increase in home improvements for community members to adhere to the new legislation.
If the government fails to offer any alternative, "the homeowner will just have to sit back on their laurels and wait until more money is available or until they save enough to make the improvements", he added.
As part of the launch of the Green Deal, politicians previously claimed that the public lacks knowledge and understanding about the need to carry out energy-efficient home improvements.
