People with jobs in environment and sustainability have been successful in encouraging homeowners to adopt a new approach to gardening.
Speaking at the Glee 2010 event earlier this week, retail consultant John Stanley revealed that garden centres are noticing customers are becoming increasingly concerned with buying sustainable products.
"[Customers] are going to be questioning the source of the products [and] the sustainability policy. [It is] going to be a huge issue for the industry," he added.
The increased conscience in purchasing green products could be the result of good work from people with jobs in environment and sustainability raising awareness of how residents can do their bit to protect the atmosphere.
Buying more environmentally-friendly products is likely to make a big impact on reducing the effects of climate change after Everest reported earlier this month that over the next year more than 18 million people plan to improve their home.
Of these, 43 per cent expect to make improvements that will lower the cost of running their properties and potentially reduce the amount of energy they use.
