People with environmental health jobs in Somerset have been dealing with a case concerning tenants who were left without heating for months.
South Somerset District Council's environmental health team helped a family of six who had no heating system for a year, This is the West Country reports.
Chris Malcolmson, environmental health officer for the local authority, told the newspaper that the family waited several months without any action before they contacted the council.
They served a notice to the landlord asking him to carry out works but he did not comply.
"We were able to carry out the works and be done with it, and bill the landlord retrospectively," Mr Malcolmson went on to say.
Councillor Ric Pallister added that "situations like these are unacceptable, there are primary health risks that cannot be ignored".
Landlords who want more information on their responsibilities can access this on the local authority's website.
