People with
jobs in environmental health in Manchester are working alongside police officers with the aim of tackling crime in the city.
According to the Manchester Evening News, council officials, housing staff and benefits officers have joined forces to combat a range of crimes across the area.
Employees from each department take part in a daily conference call with police officers to discuss recent incidents and well-known criminals.
As part of new initiative Project Cove, officials aim to involve local communities in the reduction of illegal activities in residential areas.
Chief Superintendent Steve Heywood told the newspaper: "Any sort of criminal or antisocial activity will not be tolerated and criminals could see their lives being made much more difficult as a result."
The Project Cove scheme has recently been adopted by officers in Moston and Harpurhey in a bid to increase knowledge about suspected criminals, including business interests and associates.
