Officials with
jobs in environmental health have been called in to investigate a suspected viral outbreak at a Scarborough hotel.
According to the Scarborough Evening News, between 20 and 30 guests at the historic Grand Hotel have been struck down with symptoms of vomiting and upset stomaches.
Although reasons behind the outbreak have not been confirmed, council staff have been working alongside health officials to get to the root of the problem.
The hotel was forced to close temporarily in 2002, 2004 and 2007 due to several cases of the dangerous bug Norovirus.
Dr Simon Padfield from the Humber Health Protection Unit said: "At this stage, information currently available suggests that the cause is most likely to be a viral gastrointestinal infection that has spread from person-to-person amongst hotel guests."
This news comes after the Landmark Dundee Hotel in Scotland was forced to close its swimming and spa facilities due to the discovery of traces of legionella bacteria on the premises.
