Environmental health jobs may be needed in Dunfermline after it was discovered that there has been a boom in rats.
A resident found a dead rat lying in a city centre street earlier this week, which brought the problem to the attention of environmental health officers, the Dunfermline Press reported.
"My concern is there are three sites that are breeding grounds for rats that are all badly needing cleaned up, like the old Dunlop factory and the old Harris and Duff building," he told the newspaper.
Fife Council has since found signs of the rodents in old buildings on Bruce Street, Foundry Street and Pilmuir Street.
Pest control has also been called in to deal with the outbreak of rodents and examinations of the buildings are set to take place.
Earlier this month, the Times reported that residents in Watford had also complained of a rat epidemic, saying that an alley heaped with rubbish has led to a rodent infestation.
